Taka are thrilled to be presenting an extremely rare training session with master swordsman.... Tetsuro Shimaguchi founder, master of Kengido / Kamui He is a “Samurai Artist” pursuing a style of beauty of form, acting, and martial arts mixed together. Sensei Shimaguchi is an actor / stunt performer and a choreographer for “KILL BILL” a film by Quentin Tarantino, as Crazy 88’s “MIKI”. His most recent work, The Last Samurai Standing, premiered on Netflix in 2025, where he played a key role in supervising the sword performances and choreographing.. DAY ONE — FOUNDATIONS OF KENJUTSU The first evening focuses on the foundations of traditional Kenjutsu and the mindset behind samurai sword movement. Led by Tetsuro Shimaguchi, participants will explore posture, precision, timing, control and the philosophy of movement through practical sword training and choreography principles used for stage and screen. This session is designed to build strong technical understanding while introducing the discipline, awareness and presence required within samurai performance and combat movement. Participants will work through: • How to hold and draw a Katana correctly • Basic postures and footwork • Swing training and controlled cutting mechanics • Slash training and directional striking • Short 1v1 choreography training • Choreography filming for performance and screen work Suitable for performers, martial artists, stunt practitioners and movement artists of all experience levels. Original method on Kengido was founded by samurai artist Tetsuro Shimaguchi in 2012. The martial art of swordsmanship "Ken剱" and the performing art "Gi伎" are fused into a single art form, It's the "Way道" to enhance intangible spirituality through interaction with others. Beginning with "Rei" (courtesy) and valuing "Ma" (distance and timing), we communicate through the sword, facing the other person and ourselves. The Samurai Method can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of age, gender, or nationality. The goal is to improve the mind and body, to nurture good people, and to connect with the world.
